Alright here it is, the SICKEST VACAY EVA!!!
One day, namely a Tuesday afternoon, I was sitting in biology class when two fine fellows whispered sweet nothings about a trip to Kauai in my ear. I did not believe their fantasy so I told them to I would talk to them after class. After class came along and they started to tell me about their plans for Kauai it was then and there I realized they were being for real and an opportunity like that could not be passed up. So we went to the library and I bought my ticket! It was probably one of the most spontaneous decisions I have ever made and I never felt sick the whole time I was purchasing the ticket, it was great fun, giggling in the library getting all excited about the futures festivities in Kauai. Wednesday was brutal, the waiting game is a disgusting trick. But finally Thursday morning game along. We were driven to the airport by our kind friend Nate Packer, I went with three boys: Andy Romney, Nick Jones, and Tanner Camp- and one other girl named Kaylee Shepherd (ha ironic right, the only other girl and her name is almost identical to mine [don't worry though because we all came up with nicknames for each other to not get confused. Ha, Andy was Andithon, Nick was King Nicoli, Tanner was Tan Tan, I was McKay Kay, and Kaylee was Baby K. It worked out pretty nicely actually, ha!]) We got to the airport, checked in and then walked out to the plane. It wasn't a plane that was big enough to hook to a tunnel, no it was one of the smaller ones that you have to walk out to, with the stairs leading up to the plane door like in the movies, it was so cool! The plane ride took seriously 20 minutes it was a joke. Then we waited at the airport from 9:30 to noon because the little old wonderful lady we were staying with thought we were coming at nine at night, not in the morning. Ha, it was great. The lady we were staying with is Andithon's cousin's grandmother. Here name is Barbara and her nickname was Grandma Babs. She was the cutest of old ladies with a most hilarious, sarcastic, Idaho-accent tongue. On the 45 minute drive to her house all we saw was GREEN (houses were scarce). We found that this island had very little residence, in fact we found out that there is only one stake on the whole island! When we drove into Grandma Babs drive way she stopped and let me and Baby K out, us girls were going to stay in the guest house and the boys were going to stay in the basement. It was the cutest little guest house, we were so excited. We got all situated and then wanted to go to the basement at Grandma Babs house. We turned the corner and feasted our eyes on a mansion! It was huge! We went upstairs from the basement and cute, wonderful Grandma Babs had brownies, grapes, and all kinds of treats sitting out on the table for us it was so sweet. Grandma Babs then showed us our humble ride for the time being, it was a dream. We seriously looked like locals driving this car, ha! And due to the fact we were with little-boys-at-heart we had many great adventures that lasted from the time the sun went up to the time that the sun went down and that little local car took us! We first went to Kipu Falls that has this SICK rope swing. The falls weren't too big either so the boys could jump off of them. It was literally the boys jungle gym we stayed all day at this place just jumping off the waterfalls, tree limbs, and the rope swing. It was great. Then we headed to this monk-seal inhabited beach called Poipu Beach, where we didn't see any monk-seals at all but the beautiful sunset, it was wonderful. We ate some burgers at the the famous Bubba's Burger place and found we didn't like it at all. Ha, then the rest of the night was...um... interesting, to say the very least. We were stopped by the police in a drug/alcohol testing zone. We were obviously clean but we were still pulled over because Tanner (the passenger) didn't have his seatbelt on. SIDE NOTE: HAWAIIAN LAW STATES THAT THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER OF THE VEHICLE HAVE TO HAVE THEIR SEAT BELTS SECURE WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. AND ANY OTHER PASSENGER UNDER THE AGE OF 18. Seeing that Nick, Kaylee and I are all over the age of 18 we were not fined but Tanner was fined a whopping $102 for a seat belt ticket. It was freaking ridiculous. He was so mad and it was the most awkward drive to the grocery store I have ever had with friends. At the grocery store we were getting meals for the next five days and conveniently when we got in line a woman walked by a warned everyone to get another case of water because a tsunami was coming. CRaZy! In the 30 minutes drive to Barbs, which was inland and probably 1000 ft. on top of a mountain, we all probably got a total of maybe 25 calls and/or text messages as to where we were, if we were safe, what we should do, etc... When we got to the house we said a prayer and just watched the news till we fell asleep. We felt safe where we were but seeing what happened in Japan just unsettled us. By five the next morning I had 11 messages and 3 voice messages from people asking if I was OK and to be safe and such. Friday morning the warnings and watches ended by 7 a.m. and by 11 a.m. we were at the beach swimming, tanning, surfing and boogie boarding.K, the beaches in Hawaii are B-E-A-UTIFUL they put California beaches to shame and California beaches are UGLY compared to Hawaii. So when I say this beach looked like California you get the picture. However, to Andithon, Tan Tan and my surprise there was the river we swam across that led to a gorgeous secluded Hawaiian Beach, where the tree limbs barely touched the water and the sand was golden and the water was a clear light blue. It was like we found Giligans Island, it was so fun we acted like little kids that had just discovered a new island, it was so much fun! After that we went to this other secluded beach called Secret Beach, it was even cooler! We found these warm pools of water surrounded by lava rocks (natural jacuzzi's). It was so cool! On Saturday we took all day to hike the Nepali Coast. It was Freaking amazing! The Nepali Coast is the shore line that is filmed in the beginning of Jurassic Park, have you seen it? It is so amazing and beautiful and wonderful and awesome, it blew us out of the water, seriously! We hiked the coast until we got to this cool rock beach which is also a camping ground for hippies (a.k.a. Hippie Colony [I think]). Then we hiked another two miles in to this huge 300 ft. massive waterfall it was ginormous! That day was one of the fav's, hands down. Sunday came along and we went to church with Grandma Babs then went site seeing we went to this canyon called the Wimea Canyon, which basically looks like the grand canyon only green and honestly ten times prettier and cooler! Then we site saw the at the top of this mountain, known as one of the wettest places on earth due to cloud precipitation. If you stay there long enough (which we did) the clouds clear up and you can see the other end of the Nepali Coast line up with the end of Wimea Canyon and it hits the ocean, it was breath taking! We seriously stayed for an hour not talking it was so beautiful. Then we had a "family" bbq with Grandma Babs, it was excellent and we ate so much fun!!! I haven't had a hot dog in ten years but we had to get rid of all the food we bought so I ate three! Not as bad as I thought, but please don't quote me on that. Ha. On Monday we kayaked down the river by Grandma Babs house and hiked into the smallest waterfall we found and then went to the airport where we cried the whole 20 minutes flight home because we didn't want to go home, to Oahu ha my life is so funny. And that was my vacation away from my vacation I live everyday. I LOVE KAUAI!!
